The Cloud Crew gives people with technology skills the opportunity to gain real-world experience by working as a Junior Consultant on a genuine project for a real business. You’ll work alongside other Junior Consultants and a Technical Coach to deliver something the business can actually use.
No. The focus is on learning through real project delivery — working with a business, understanding requirements, building and testing solutions, responding to feedback and delivering a finished outcome.
It’s for people who primarily live in Scotland have developed technology skills through university, bootcamps, self-directed learning, career-change programmes or other routes, but need professional experience to take their next step. We're looking to support 150 job seekers - of all ages - across Scotland. Similar opportunities to Project build are also available in other areas too, so if you live outside of Scotland please still get in touch.
No. You need relevant technical skills and a willingness to learn, contribute and work as part of a team.
Work can be carried out remotely.
Physical hubs will be available in:
- Glasgow
- Edinburgh
- Dundee
You must be able to commit to a minimum of 16 hours of volunteering per week.
You must have access to their own device, as devices are not provided as standard.
Projects can cover software development, AI, cloud, data, automation, cyber security and web development. You’ll be matched to a project based on your skills and career goals.
Yes. You’ll work with a real small business on a genuine business challenge, with real requirements, users and constraints.
Projects could include website improvements, workflow automation, AI assistants, data projects, cyber security assessments, dashboards, CRM projects and internal applications.
Projects can last up to 90 days, with time to understand the problem, build and test a solution, gather feedback and prepare for handover.
You’ll need to make a genuine commitment to the project, attend scheduled check-ins, complete agreed work and communicate with your team
You’ll work with a Technical Coach and other Junior Consultants. Support can also include mentoring, professional development, GDPR and IT security training, CV and LinkedIn support, employability guidance and employer connections.
You’ll gain real project experience that you can discuss with employers, along with evidence of your contribution, a job reference and recommendations where appropriate.
You can discuss your experience, but you cannot assume you can publish the client's code, data or confidential information. You may be able to use non-confidential evidence where permitted.
Potentially. The business may consider you for a role if there’s a suitable opportunity and you’re a good fit, but employment is not guaranteed.
You’ll still leave with real project experience, evidence of your contribution, a stronger CV and interview story, a job reference, employability support and access to employer connections.
The project concludes with a final showcase and handover. You’ll continue to have access to The Cloud Crew community and may have opportunities to work on further projects depending on your development and business needs.

How are we funded?
All activities are fully-funded by UK Government under the Tech Skills programme. The programme embeds jobseekers within small businesses to deliver real 90‑day digital transformation projects across AI, cyber and digital technologies, supported by technical coaches - acting as a catalyst that unlocks fair access to tech careers while boosting SME productivity through the kind of hands‑on digital support and technical know‑how that would otherwise be out of reach.
